Alabama Sports Festival athlete shines at the State Games of America
The State Games of America held their bi-annual competition August 4-7, 2011, in San Diego, California. Alabama’s own Christina Tarsitano, out of Huntsville, represented Alabama and the Alabama Sports Festival very well indeed! Christina won 1 Gold, 3 Silver, 2 Bronze and was the most decorated athlete for Girls 9-10 in swimming! Christina also represented Alabama as the bearer of Alabama’s flag during the opening ceremonies’ parade of athletes, held in the famous Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. She qualified for the State Games of America by winning 4 gold medals in our Alabama State Games June 24-26, 2011! Congratulations Christina! We are extremely proud of you!

State Games of America History
The State Games of America is the premier, national multi-sport event for athletes of all ages and abilities held every biennium, under the banner of the National Congress of State Games. Medal winners from State Games programs nationwide earn the right to compete against other winners and match their skills and competitive desire in a national arena.
The State Games concept was developed in New York in 1978 with the Empire State Games. State Games feature various sports of the Olympic and Pan American Games as well as sports that have regional popularity within each state.
The 2011 State Games of America will take place August 4-7 in San Diego.
If you medaled (1st - 3rd) in the 2009 or 2010 Alabama Sports Festival, you qualify to compete in the 2011 State Games of America.
Registration opened January 1, 2011.
